Gammel Dansk is a Danish bitters, and the name literally means "Old Danish". It was first created in 1961 and it is flavoured with herbs and spices including star anise, nutmeg, ginger, laurel, gentian, Seville orange, cinnamon and others. The recipe remains a secret.

best bitter I ever had, A shot after a long night out soothes the stomach unlike any I've had before.
she likes it. she has it every easter
They say the better your pallet the more likely you are to enjoy this amazing drink. A shot in the morning gives the day a much better kick start then coffee.
I bought a bottle of Gammel Dansk in Edmonton Canada. My Dad was Danish and I remember him drinking it when he relaxed in the evening. I like it; definitely an acquired taste but I love the hints of cinnamon, orange and other spices with the after bitter kick. Warming and it sure cures a cold!
I picked up a bottle in duty-free at Copenhagen airport a few years ago. A friend who's a frequent traveler to Aarhus on business remarked that many Danes stop for a shot before heading into the office. He also said it's great if you're coming down with a cold or the flu and need to keep moving. I recommend a shot at breakfast on January 1 after you've had too much New Year's Eve.
