Gammel Dansk is a Danish bitters, and the name literally means "Old Danish". It was first created in 1961 and it is flavoured with herbs and spices including star anise, nutmeg, ginger, laurel, gentian, Seville orange, cinnamon and others. The recipe remains a secret.

I love this drink. It's good for the tummy to ease constipation and most importantly 'men' drink. It drives my libido.
I was married to a Danish girl for 7 years and following the instructions from her drank it morning noon and night. The ultimate was quaffing from a mini coup glass (correct way) in the Christian IV in Hirshals. Great days. Now I'm older (much) I drink it to cure all the normal ailments of an oldie. Beats ibroprofum any day. Anyone seen Hanne Fuglsang anywhere by the way?
That is like saying I like soda pop but prefer prime rib! Both are very Danish, both drank for different reasons at different times.
