Benedictine was originally created as an elixir to sustain monks as they worked.
D.O.M. stands for "Deo Optimo Maximo" meaning, "To God most good, most great".
The recipe for Benedictine is a closely guarded secret, but it is known to contain 27 different herbs and spices. Benedictine is a sweet and aromatic liqueur that is perfect for sipping on its own or using in cocktails.
Benedictine's flavour is very pungent, with spices and herbs. Rich and flavoursome. Dom Benedictine is a herbal, spicy concoction…
Excellent drink for this cold weather
The closest thing I can think of to compare Benedictine to is Chartreuse. Tasting them side by side they both have a very similarly intense herbal flavour though I'd say Benedictine is slightly sweeter, more rounded and less vegetal and sharp than Chartreuse. I'm looking forward to trying it out in cocktails where it is called for and seeing how it works as a swap for Chartreuse in others. I'm not sure you'd need both in your cocktail arsenal at the same time but we'll see!
After dinner this is a great digest-if.
I would recommend trying this excellent liqueur. A fantastic taste, and a household favorite. What's more, it is said to possess healing powers. What's not to like?
