Whiskey Eggnog

A whiskey eggnog is a delightful spin on a Christmas classic that combines the rich, warm flavours of whisky with the creamy, spiced goodness of eggnog. We're thinking a nice, approachable Irish whiskey would suit here, think Tullamore D.E.W, Jameson, or Bushmills core range.

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Serves: 1 person

Calories: 300 (approx)

Ingredients:

30ml Whole milk

10ml Sugar syrup/gomme

1 Small/medium lion-marked egg

Nutmeg for garnish

Method:

Shake without ice for 30 seconds, add ice and shake for 15 seconds, strain into a chilled coupette glass, garnish with freshly-grated nutmeg.

Christmas Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned never fails but at this time of year, you can take things up a notch with some easy additions or adjustments. Use a festively spiced rye whisky or a Port-cask finish whisky, for example. Ramp things up further by experimenting with bitters, think ginger or chocolate. Perhaps even Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters or Bitter Bastards Frankincense Bitters... The simple addition of an elegant but seasonal garnish works too. An orange twist is classic and effective, but you can also play around with walnuts, cranberries, or even a burning pine sprig.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 1 person

Calories: 150 (approx)

Ingredients:

30ml Whiskey

1tsp (to taste) Demerara sugar

2 dashes bitters (Angostura is the OG)

Orange twist (garnish)

Method:

Add the first three ingredients to a tumbler. Add sugar and stir (without ice) until the desired level of sweetness is achieved, then add ice and stir for 30 seconds. Check again for sweetness (temperature negatively impacts sweetness perception) then express the orange peel over the glass and discard.

Cinnamon Apple Whisky Sour

The Whiskey Sour is one of those drinks that looks complicated but is really very simple and delightfully adaptable. Bring the flavours of apple and cinnamon to the mix and you've got a seasonal sensation that will leave your guests wanting more. Have fun with the style of whisky you use, if it's got orchard fruit and baking spice flavours then you're onto a winner.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 1 person

Calories: 200 (approx)

Ingredients:

30ml Whisky

20ml Lemon juice

20ml Cloudy apple juice

10ml Simple syrup/gomme

1 Small/medium lion-marked egg (white only)

A pinch of ground cinnamon for garnish

Method:

Shake without ice for 30 seconds, add ice and shake for 15 seconds, strain into a tumbler glass half-filled with fresh ice, garnish with cinnamon (sprinkle from a height).

Gingerbread Manhattan

See how simple it is to make something Christmassy? All we've done here is take the classic Manhattan and added some gingerbread liqueur as well as a couple of other choice ingredients.

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Serves: 1 person

Calories: 165 (approx)

Ingredients:

10ml Antica Formula Vermouth

5ml Monin Gingerbread Syrup

Luxardo Cherry (garnish)

Orange twist (garnish)

Method:

Stir the first four ingredients over ice for 20-30 seconds, then strain into a chilled Martini glass. Add your cherry, express the orange peel over the top of the drink, and serve immediately.

Candy Cane Mint Julep

The Mint Julep may be associated with hot Kentucky days but if you use candy canes to elevate your mint flavour then you're in fantastically festive territory, my friend. Just try not to eat them all first. Not that we did that. Nope.

Prep Time: 4 minutes

Serves: 1 person

Calories: 200 (approx)

Ingredients:

30ml Bourbon

10 Fresh mint leaves plus a small sprig for garnish

5ml Sugar syrup/gomme

1 Mini candy cane (garnish)

Method:

Shake the first four ingredients over lots of ice, hard, for a minute. Fine-strain into a cup filled to the brim with crushed ice and garnish with the candy cane (just stuff it into the ice) and mint sprig.
