While the original Whitley Neill Gin is inspired by the exotic flavours of Africa, their Rhubarb & Ginger Gin variation takes inspiration from closer to the Whitley family's homestead.
Enjoyably fruity on the nose, with rhubarb preserve and baked apple. Hints of leafy herbs grow in the background.
Orange, ginger and coriander arrive on the palate, though it's still dominated by rhubarb. A core of earthy juniper builds.
A tangy touch of tartness appears later on, balanced by black pepper and gingerbread.

My girlfriend and I were out on out fortnightly date night (our one night without the kids, wahooo!) and decided to try this beautifully purple bottled tipple. I wasn't expecting much being a Gin-hater (at the time) but she insisted I try it and as all of us guys know... sometimes it's not worth arguing. I could see it in her eyes that it wasn't worth contesting because I could tell that she would make me taste this drink before we left, by hook or by crook! I'm so glad she did... Our bartender served it up in a HUGE glass, one I'm pretty sure I could have sat in if I were an inch or two shorter. This wasn't madness though, as it turned out, as apparently the huge glass allows the flavors to form and release (whatever that means?) So yes, a huge glass with lemonade, raspberries and a few rocks of ice and MY LORD, it took my breath away. I can completely understand that taste is subjective but crikey this is incredible stuff. My first and overwhelming thought was Sherbert, it tastes exactly like sherbert! The lemonade tickling my throat as this incredible taste gets released in to my mouth... absolute bliss. I have a new favorite drink and I can honestly say, I didn't think it would be a gin, not in a million years! I couldn't recommend this highly enough, especially if you have a sweet tooth (have it with lemonade, don't be a snob) it will rock your world!
Blummin lovely, perfect on a summers day with ginger ale and lots of ice
Really nice gin with subtle rhubarb and ginger flavours and very good balance of acidity and sweetness. My favourite gin.
I can see why its dividing opinions . taste is, after all subjective . It's nothing like Edinburgh's rhubarb which i think many base rhubarb flavour on . Personally I liked it .we had it with ginger ale. There is a sweetness there that we thought tasted of fruit salad sweets.
Refreshing delicious and yet very delicate - my new choice of gin ? Fever tree Mediterranean and ice - with a pinch of fresh black pepper - a real treat - by the way "Foul" you can pass your gin to me - please
