Castle Hill Gin
In 2020, amid the unpredictability and challenges presented by the global pandemic, Tom, a 34-year-old father, Huddersfield University graduate, and escape room business owner, embarked on an unexpected journey. Driven by a passion for gin and a long-standing dream to start his own distillery, the doors closing on one venture led to the inception of another: Castle Hill Gin.
Though the world grappled with the ramifications of the Coronavirus, Tom's resilience was evident. Without any formal distilling experience, but armed with a fervent interest in gins, Tom set himself an ambitious target: to have a finished gin product before the end of 2020. Known for his proactive nature, as his wife would attest, likening him to a "bull to a red rag," Tom immersed himself headfirst into the realm of gin-making.
Branding, particularly naming the gin and designing its label, posed a significant challenge. Tom's deep-rooted connection with Huddersfield and his desire to highlight its essence led to the christening of the gin as Castle Hill, an iconic landmark of the town. A fortuitous encounter with a gifted illustrator transformed the brand's visual identity, encapsulating its spirit perfectly.
By December's close, Tom's vision came full circle. Castle Hill Gin, with its two unique variants, was ready for the world, a testament to Tom's undying spirit and the magic that can be birthed even in challenging times.
