Our previous auction for the Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016 raised £2,800 for the charity, with these bottles set to top that figure!

Lottery & Auction: Wolfburn Inaugural Special Edition

Wolfburn Lottery and Auction

We’re splitting our allocation of Wolfburn Inaugural Special Edition single malt whisky between a bottle lottery, an auction (with anything over RRP donated to our nominated charity Malaria No More UK) and a 3cl dram lottery. See the timeline below for when all this is going down.

Back in March we introduced a new solution for limited releases (you can read that post for a lot more information on the ‘why?’). It’s now time to put that into practice once again, this time for the Wolfburn Inaugural Special Edition. Just 875 bottles were produced, with only 100 available in the UK, and the whiskies used were selected by Distillery Manager Shane Fraser from some of the very first casks filled back in early 2013. Some liquid history from the new northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland!

So, what to do with the 6 bottles – for which there’s sure to be huge demand – that we now have available having received our full allocation and updated our auction system?

Master of Malt #WhiskySanta ISC

Master of Malt 40yo Speyside and #WhiskySanta pick up Trophies at the International Spirits Challenge 2016!

Last night we were bursting with pride as we picked up two massive shiny trophies at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) 2016 awards dinner. Firstly, our Master of Malt 40 Year Old Speyside was named Best Single Malt Scotch Over 21 Years Old! An absolutely colossal and humbling win, beating hundreds of fantastic whiskies to the prize. Our 50 Year Old Speyside also picked up a Gold medal.

The tasting trophies are shaped like big ‘ol tasting glasses. You could drink award-winning speyside whisky out of them if you were so inclined (and we were).

‘The Exceptional’ Whiskies Now Available!

The Exceptional whisky

The Exceptional Malt, Grain and Blend from Don Sutcliffe and former Managing Director of The Macallan Willie Phillips launch in the UK.

Available on Master of Malt today are three new Scotch whiskies from American independent bottler Sutcliffe & Son, brought to the UK by Number One Drinks. Called ‘The Exceptional’, the chaps behind them are none other than Willie Phillips, who was Managing Director of The Macallan between 1978 and 1996 (crucial years for the development of this famous single malt, of course) and Craft Distillers Managing Director Don Sutcliffe who worked with him to grow The Macallan in the US back in the late 1980s. Friends for 25 years, The Exceptional is something of a passion project for them both, working also with Master Blender Bill Arthur.

English Whisky Company

Long time readers of the Master of Malt Blog will know that we visited the home of the English Whisky Company in Norfolk all the way back in 2009 – over 6 years ago! Ben had a look around the awesome St. George’s Distillery, saw a dog and definitely didn’t get told off by a colleague for having to be physically dragged away from their cask storage containers.

The Return of Johnnie Walker Green Label!

Johnnie Walker Green Label

We’re delighted to announce that Johnnie Walker Green Label has returned to the UK and reclaimed its place in the Johnnie Walker range!

First introduced in 2005, in 2012 it was announced that the 15 year old blended malt whisky was to be discontinued, to the disappointment of its many fans (although it was never actually removed from all markets worldwide). In 2015 it was reintroduced in North America on a temporary basis to mark its tenth anniversary, but its long term future still hung in the balance.
