Big Peat Fèis Ìle 2026
PX casks. Cask strength. A proper peat riot.
Beacuse Fèis Ìle without Big Peat is wrong
To mark the 40th anniversary of Islay’s legendary whisky festival, Douglas Laing has unleashed a special edition of Big Peat that doubles down on everything people love about the big-bearded peat monster in the first place.
Massive Islay smoke, big personality, and no messing about. But this year there’s an indulgent twist.
Big Peat Fèis Ìle 2026 takes the classic marriage of Islay single malts and gives it extra time in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, layering dark fruit sweetness and decadent richness over waves of maritime peat smoke. It’s loud and sticky and smoky.
And yes, it arrives at a natural cask strength of 52.6% ABV. This is Big Peat, after all.
Big Peat goes full festival mode
This limited edition release was created specifically to celebrate Fèis Ìle 2026, the annual gathering where whisky fans descend on Islay to queue outside distilleries in questionable weather conditions for the spirit we love. This year is particularly special as it's the 40th anniversary of Fèis.
The label artwork this year is a nice touch too. Look closely and you’ll spot that Big Peat himself is actually made up of fan-submitted faces from whisky lovers around the world. A smoky little mosaic celebrating the global community that has turned Fèis Ìle into one of whisky’s most beloved events.
Because for all the smoke, cask strength bravado and glorious Islay chaos, Fèis Ìle has always been about people. Shared drams, stories, and the love of good whisky bringing us together and making us forget about the ferry delays. At least for a moment.
Big Peat Fèis Ìle 2026 Whisky
The whisky itself is built upon Big Peat’s beloved blend of Islay single malts from some of the island’s most famous distilleries, then given a thorough finishing in exceptional Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
The smoke remains front and centre, but now there’s a richer, darker side underneath it all. Think sticky figs, dates, cocoa powder, roasted coffee beans and toasted walnuts buried beneath warm bonfire embers.
As ever with Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts range, this release arrives without colouring and without chill-filtration.
At 52.6% ABV, Big Peat Fèis Ìle 2026 delivers a full-bodied, oily texture that carries the PX influence beautifully. Water opens things up nicely, drawing out more dried fruit sweetness and earthy smoke, but it absolutely stands tall neat too if you enjoy your peat with maximum impact.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Big earthy Islay peat smoke leads the charge, followed by sweet bonfire embers, sticky figs, dates, dark roast coffee and sea air.
Palate: Toasted walnuts, cocoa powder and velvety Pedro Ximénez sweetness collide with medicinal peat and charred oak.
Finish: Long, warming and satisfyingly smoky, with drying sherry richness and lingering coastal peat.
