Ardbeg Spectacular is a special distillery bottling released for Fèis Ìle 2024. A first for Ardbeg, the single malt Scotch whisky was matured in Port wine casks before it was then married with classic bourbon barrels before bottling at 46%. This is a limited edition whisky which is sure to get Ardbeg lovers all excited.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Perfumed and aromatic, with notes of lavender followed by leather, woodsmoke, mint and an almond nuttiness.

Palate

Full and oily with a salty menthol freshness and woodsmoke with sweeter notes of toffee, apple crumble and fudge.

Finish

Long and lingering with leather, salted caramel and that minty note persisting.

A freaky whisky

Bill Lumsden, whisky maker extraordinaire for The Glenmorangie Company, has come up with some unforgettable single malts in his time but this latest release might just take the biscuit.

Called Ardbeg Spectacular, it’s part-aged in Port casks, a first for this cult Islay distillery. Lumsden described it as: “This is a helter skelter of flavours! Totally weird and absolutely spectacular. This is a freaky whisky!” Who could resist that description?

Ardbeg Ardcore

Ardbeg goes Ardcore! This limited edition expression from the distillery on Islay was made with roasted black malt, giving it an intense flavour profile, which is described as being "like biting a spiky ball" on the label. Not a tasting note we've ever seen before. It's got plenty of punk livery on its label, so stick on something loud, pour a glass, and enjoy!

A fascinating one from Ardbeg, Heavy Vapours is the Islay distillery's whisky with the gloves taken off. Meaning it was distilled without using Ardbeg’s purifier. Typically, vapours that rise up the still are captured by this piece of equipment, which sits on the lyne arm of Ardbeg’s spirit still.

Here's batch 5 of Ardbeg's impressive Traigh Bhan 19 Year Old single malt. Some of the most rich, complex, and bold peated whisky on the market, each edition of Traigh Bhan (pronounced tri-van) is aged in a combo of American oak and oloroso sherry casks.
