YAMAZAKI & HAKUSHU

A celebration of  the House of Suntory

Suntory built Yamazaki in 1923, on a misty plain outside Kyoto where three rivers meet. Half a century later they went the other way entirely - up into the forests of the Southern Japanese Alps - and built Hakushu. Same house, same obsessive craft, two whiskies that could not taste less alike.

Yamazaki Distillery is located on a site where three rivers meet
Yamazaki
Where three rivers meet

Seven hundred metres up in the Southern Japanese Alps. Granite-filtered meltwater, a cooler climate and a whisper of peat - it tastes like the woodland it's made in.

How they drink it in japan

The highball is not a compromise. Two parts whisky, six parts very cold soda, one long stir, no fuss - it's how Toki and Hakushu are drunk at home, and it does something to the green, herbal side of Hakushu that neat serving simply doesn't.
