The latest Yoichi single malt will replace both the previous NAS release and the remaining age statement whiskies. The change comes as demand continues to stretch Nikka's aged stock, with this new Yoichi Single Malt (made of of whiskies of various ages) aimed at representing this special distillery's direct-coal-heated, peated yet fruity style.
There’s a lot of fruits in the form of lemon, pears, and white grapes.
Tons and tons of fruits. Kumquat, pineapple, pears and citrus all come out. The citrus is a mix of yuzu and satsuma oranges. A lovely malt note comes through as well. Overall, it has a very heavy worm tub whisky texture.
Medium in length. There’s the slightest trace of acetone here. Some chocolate dust pops in here and again along with orange peels, bergamont, and kumquats.

This is a lovely single malt. My first bottle of Japanese whiskey and I have to say it's fantastic.
Peat, fruit and some subtle sweetness. Just perfect with a little ice. A great find!
Nose - Smoke, sea-brine, nutmeg, dried or candied orange, in that order of prevalence. Palate - Heathery smokiness, dried fruits, walnuts, chocolate, clove. Full bodied and rewarding, well worth savoring. Finish - Long, smooth, and nuanced, fruit and that herby smoke slowly give way to slight eucalyptus tones and leather, brine slowly fading throughout. Unlike many distilleries producing singles in Japan I can't tell that the younger profile has hurt Yoichi at all, in fact as heretical as it seems to say it may even be a little bit better balanced on my palate than the youngest of their age statements were while remaining absolutely characteristic of the range.
This is my third bottle of Japanese whiskey’s And I have to say it won’t be my last. These are extremely smooth and pleasant to the palette.
Just the right amount of peat and fruit. Take your time and just sit and enjoy.
