Discontinued 10 year old single malt from the Yamazaki distillery, aged in bourbon barrels. A lovely fruity dram, quite floral.

The nose is fruity and rich. Plenty of barley malt and caramel, cereal sweetness and winter spice. Vanilla cream and mixed peels with a hint of nuts.
The palate is of medium-body with notes of rich peels and winter spice, aniseed and a herbal note. A bitter oak develops.
The finish is dry and of good length with acacia honey.

I've been to the Yamazaki distillery in Japan, and have tried all of them except for the 25 year. For every day sipping whiskey, I prefer the 10 to the 12 year. Unlike other whiskey's there's a real difference between them. The 10 is a little smoother, while the 12 year is more complex. It's interesting, because the regular single malt bottle has a deep charred taste from the barrel, that mellows out over time. At 10 years, it's mellowed out as much as it's going to. By 12, it's gained complexity. At 18 years, it's like nothing else. It seems to change flavor in your mouth for about a minute. Unreal. So, if you can get it the 10 year is a great in-between whiskey.
You simply dont get annything better single malts for this price!
This is a very good 10 year old whisky it has a nice round body of flavours and stands up to top brands.
First try of Japanese Whisky and it is very promising. 18 yo is the next goal. I highly recommend this as alternative to Scottish standard
