    Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon

The mashbill for Woodford Reserve features a high percentage of rye: 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt. The whiskey is also unusual for being triple distilled and having the lowest proof upon entering the barrel where it matures for at least six years. A must have Kentucky bourbon. Makes a wonderful Old-Fashioned cocktail!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Quite thick and creamy. There are notes of honey and spice, leather, a touch of cocoa, a little smoke, toasty oak and vanilla cream with a hint of butterscotch.

    Palate

Thick and full. There are notes of espresso beans, winter spice, cereal sweetness, plenty of rye, ground ginger, almond oil, toasty oak and a little rum.

    Finish

Long and mature with notes of cereals and toasty oaken spice.

    Tried many inexpensive bourbons

After trying pretty much every bourbon from my local supermarket, this one goes down very smooth. I'm not much of a bourbon drinker, but this one takes the cake.

    An Elegant Bourbon

Very round and sweet aroma, oaky, rich but delicate. Hint of caramel popcorn. On the palate this is very relaxed and easygoing, sweet grassy notes and definite nut/nut oil notes. A warming corn sweetness complimented by a spicy rye background. The finish is long and carries out the flavours nicely. This is a very elegant bourbon, and an elegant drink. Interesting to see a bourbon that is triple distilled, and I find it makes this quite characteristic. I like the bottle as well, sort of craft/artisanal look to it, though I'm not a fan of the glue and bits of paper that stick to the neck of the bottle after opening, but no big deal. A pleasant experience.

    top shelf; bottom dollar

This is my favorite bourbon neat, by a mile. More complexity, viscosity, depth and flavor than many whiskies of any style. I can nose this indefinitely. For the price it is unbelievable.
