It's finally here - the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. This expression begins life being aged in the same way as the classic Woodford Reserve, but following this, it is further matured in barrels which have been heavily toasted and lightly charred. This imparts an added depth of sweet oaken character to the whiskey, as well as developing the fruit, vanilla and caramel notes.
Black cherries, toffee, dark chocolate, honey and toasted almonds.
Rich and full with notes of baked apples, cinnamon, cloves and caramel.
Creamy and smooth with vanilla and baking spices.
Great flavour profile, any of these one stars are probably not whiskey drinkers.
Brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, oak, maple... everything I want from damn good bourbon
Dreadful. Petrol blended with toilet cleaner. Nasty chemical taste, unpleasant, unpalatable. Best taken with lashings of Coca-Cola.
It’s a very bitter whiskey. Just imagine the Woodford Kentucky bourbon, but about 1.5x more bitter, and a lot sweeter as well, but just as smooth. While it’s not as good as said Kentucky bourbon, it’s rich and full bodied, and hides some complex flavour notes behind the dark-chocolatey and coffee like CHONK. It’s a solid 8/10, but you’re probably better off buying Woodford’s straight Kentucky bourbon.
I’m a lover of Woodford Reserve, but then on trying Woodford Reserve double oaked its taken it the next level caramel, brown sugar vanilla taste, makes you wanna smack yo mamma haha
