It's finally here - the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. This expression begins life being aged in the same way as the classic Woodford Reserve, but following this, it is further matured in barrels which have been heavily toasted and lightly charred. This imparts an added depth of sweet oaken character to the whiskey, as well as developing the fruit, vanilla and caramel notes.
Black cherries, toffee, dark chocolate, honey and toasted almonds.
Rich and full with notes of baked apples, cinnamon, cloves and caramel.
Creamy and smooth with vanilla and baking spices.
Ghastly, metallic, hard, superficial.
Nose is a bit soft, with notes of toffee, vanilla, oak, light tobacco. Taste of toffee, vanilla, spice, dark chocolate. Finish is long, oaky, warming. I find it to be quite subtle. It's a very good bourbon. I think it is ideal for sharing with those who do not have a lot of exposure to bourbon or have a perception of it as some sort of high proof spice bomb.
Very approachable bourbon. Aromas and tastes of brown sugar, vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, mildl spice. Would be great for sharing with someone who's not tried bourbon previously. Just wish it had a bit higher ABV.
When you can't get Blantons. This is kneck and kneck my preference
Not a bad bourbon, but a big disappointment though. Way too ashy, woody and musty for my liking, even after several minutes of breathing in the glass. Lacks the things that make the ”normal” Woodford Reserve tasty. Love the color and the bottle design, too bad the lovely fruit and caramel are overpowered by the excessive oak.
