From William Grant comes Aerstone Sea Cask, a 10 year old single malt hailing from the Ailsa Bay Distillery. Its decade of maturation wasn't spent quite in the sea, though those maritime notes were still soaked up thanks to its ageing process in warehouses by the sea on the Ayrshire coast in Scotland.
Buttery toffee, creamy vanilla, freshly baked shortbread, honeyed malt, orange citrus and a dusting of cinnamon and cocoa.
Floral malt, nougat, vanilla sponge and more honey, with orange sweeties, icing sugar and earthy oak.
Notes of clove, candied lemon and vanilla pod linger, as a pinch of salt appears on the finish.
This malt will in no way impress a drinker looking for something robust or challenging, but if you like pleasant, unchallenging flavours, and are looking for an affordable age statement to open your palate with before moving to weightier malts later in the evening, this is a great choice. It fits alongside Glenfiddich 12 and Speyburn's 10, and is recommendable for similar reasons. Another frame of reference for the palate is Penderyn's Legend. It's closer to the mild sherry balance of Glenfiddich, lacking the primarily fruity notes of Speyburn.
Just tried this for the first time. I am by no means an 'expert' but I really enjoy my whisky and I loved the Aerstone 'Sea Cask'. Very smooth and easy to drink. Will most definitely be going for this again.
Very smooth. Very easy to drink. I normally drink Speyside malts. I do not like the smokey peatyness of others. It reminds me of the TCP antiseptic that my mother used on my minor cuts and abrasions when I was a small person.
Very nice 80th birthday present. Soft and easy to drink.
Excellent anytime malt
