Aerstone 10 Year Old Sea Cask

From William Grant comes Aerstone Sea Cask, a 10 year old single malt hailing from the Ailsa Bay Distillery. Its decade of maturation wasn't spent quite in the sea, though those maritime notes were still soaked up thanks to its ageing process in warehouses by the sea on the Ayrshire coast in Scotland.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Buttery toffee, creamy vanilla, freshly baked shortbread, honeyed malt, orange citrus and a dusting of cinnamon and cocoa.

    Palate

Floral malt, nougat, vanilla sponge and more honey, with orange sweeties, icing sugar and earthy oak.

    Finish

Notes of clove, candied lemon and vanilla pod linger, as a pinch of salt appears on the finish.

Easy on nose bit no description on flavour

On the nose very nice but after that just lacks thats flavour burst that other malts deliver. That said I paid £20 for a bottle and at that price it will bite the heels of some of the more famous brands. Would probably buy again.

    Surprisingly good

For £20 it’s excellent value, whilst being nothing special there’s nothing really wrong it. A great everyday sipper that puts many pricier bottles to shame.

Value for an “on offer” price

For £20 it’s a value budget whiskey. Light, easy to drink, fairly smooth with a prolonged salty aftertaste. Not a whiskey to turn your nose up as some have indicated, good value for an “on offer “ price

Full of subtle flavour. Great sipping whisky.

I've been a whisky drinker for years and I know what I like, and I love Aerstone Sea Cask. This was bought as a present by a non whisky drinker so I was dubious. What I don't like are iodine soaked whiskies so the 'sea cask' label was a worry but it's not overpowered by the salt air. The tasting notes above do it real justice. From opening the bottle, the nose and to the first sip I was impressed. It's a complex tasting yet easy sipping whisky that doesn't take your breath away. It will definitely go on to my bar list. It's going to be a regular buy and at a great price. It's one of those whiskies I would describe as delicious.

    Bang average.

I don't know a lot about whisky, but even at £20 a bottle, I wouldn't buy this one again. It's a very drab dram.
