    age10 Year Old Whisky

Aerstone 10 Year Old Sea Cask

From William Grant comes Aerstone Sea Cask, a 10 year old single malt hailing from the Ailsa Bay Distillery. Its decade of maturation wasn't spent quite in the sea, though those maritime notes were still soaked up thanks to its ageing process in warehouses by the sea on the Ayrshire coast in Scotland.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Buttery toffee, creamy vanilla, freshly baked shortbread, honeyed malt, orange citrus and a dusting of cinnamon and cocoa.

    Palate

Floral malt, nougat, vanilla sponge and more honey, with orange sweeties, icing sugar and earthy oak.

    Finish

Notes of clove, candied lemon and vanilla pod linger, as a pinch of salt appears on the finish.

    My go-to. I love it

I tried this a while back not realising our local water had been tainted which, in turn, tainted my initial taste and, unfortunatey, a bad review which I'm now sincerely sorry for. The initial smell was that of those caramel lollies that I had as a kid many moons ago (I'm hitting close to 60). I'm not a whisky guru but I know what I like. And I love this. Easy to sip clean, with an O2 crouton or with a touch of O2. This has very quickly become my favourite. Very happy. My go-to.

Possibly better than my taste buds deserve!

One of my dinking pals produced a bottle of this yesterday, well pleased with what he had paid for it (a bit less than shown above). Together with another mate we had a little impromptu comparison tasting session with a few other (mostly, more expensive) whiskies. This one won the vote! (I placed it second). Very smooth. Thankfully, no obvious peat or smoke. Subtle aromas and flavours that I cannot identify, but none of them unpleasant. Undoubtedly very good whisky, but perhaps a little too subtle for me. Nevertheless - remarkable value. If they ditched the silly box, perhaps it could be even better value!

Nothing bad but nothing particularly good either

Smooth mouthfeel. Certainly smoother than blended JW Red. Pleasant in the nose but does not follow through to the palate. I don’t use the term “(insert adjective) but good for the money”. GFTW is a useless phrase that should be banished from the lexicon
