Wild Turkey's Rare Breed Bourbons are bottled at cask strength, and are often absolutely staggering stuff. The bottles have had a little redesign recently, and look very stylish indeed - though the eponymous turkey on the label looks rather surprised to be there. This particular edition was bottled at 58.4% ABV.
Buttery at first, before a big rush of clove and oak.
Heavy caramel and chocolate. A touch of smoke develops, it's almost a bit vegetal at points too.
Menthol, cut herbs, brown sugar and white pepper.
Gorgeous nose, & the taste has enough going on to keep you intrigued. sometimes i fancy a strong abv, but at 58% it sure bites, especially if like myself you normally find it a bit overpowing and have to add a little more water, but it's not a negative and i'll look forward to more, after all i've got a full bottle to go at !!
Great stuff, already looking for more as a backup bottle!
"Staggering stuff" indeed,as dark as treacle but this stuff isn't for your pancakes.
There is power in the nose, as the abv is high but the bite is in the pallet. on the nose cinnamon, cherry sweet vanilla . pallet gives long finish on the pallet , brown sugar vanilla that keeps going. its got a rye kick and i smell the oak for me this is a winner .
This is a fantastic drop - the nose, the mouth feel, the palate, the finish. Gobble Gobble. A generous pour over a large ice cube is just the ticket.
