Wild Turkey's Longbranch is the tasty result of a collaboration between master distiller Eddie Russell, and the distillery's creative director, who just so happens to be Matthew McConaughey. (Yes, that award-winning actor from Magic Mike, just in case you know another one.) It's made with eight-year-old Wild Turkey bourbon, and brings together elements from Eddie's and Matthew's home states, using charcoal made of both Kentucky white oak and Texas mesquite to filter the liquid. The bottle bears the signatures of both men on the label, and with sweet citrus and spicy notes, it's far more than... alright, alright, alright.
A sweet blend of caramel, smooth toffee lifted by spicy notes of nutmeg and oak.
Initially creamy vanilla, fading into buttery caramel, orchard fruits, a dash of lemon zest tempered by a drizzle of honey.
A pinch of black pepper appears on the finish, followed by an underlying buttery note and lingering drying oak.
I was bought a bottle of this yesterday for my birthday (01/08/20), from my wife who knows I enjoy a good Bourbon. Its from Wild Turkey so you already know your getting a good quality bourbon, & this Longbranch offering sits perfectly within their range of Bourbons. The taste is smooth and at 43% ABV this is a great Bourbon to enjoy neat, either alone or with friends. Longbranch makes a great gift to give to someone who enjoys, a quality Bourbon or Whiskey & would like to add it to their collection.
...which is a shame. This is a solid whiskey, spicy with a long, pleasant finish. Not too corny-tasting nor is it too heavy on the rye. In fact, and many "bourbon ppl" will argue with me, but I like it better than Rare Breed, a favorite among Wild Turkey acolytes. But taste is subjective to the individual! Longbranch is one of my favorite whiskeys of all-time.
This is a really good bourbon. I was always a Turkey 101 fan and that was my go to standard bourbon, but honestly this has replaced it. It has an odd kick/twist that may put some off, bit for me this is a stunning bourbon for the price.
A really good whiskey. Has the Wild Turkey profile but those rounded edges, that comes from the wood filtering, really gives it a unique character.
Very tasty and smooth. Due to the overall variety of whiskies in the US it’s rare for me to purchase several of the same bottle, but I’m gonna have to make an exception for this bottle. I’d anticipate the price going up on this whisky once the word gets out. My only complaint...it only comes in 750ml bottle. Miss the ole 1ltrs.
