Wild Turkey's Longbranch is the tasty result of a collaboration between master distiller Eddie Russell, and the distillery's creative director, who just so happens to be Matthew McConaughey. (Yes, that award-winning actor from Magic Mike, just in case you know another one.) It's made with eight year old Wild Turkey bourbon, and brings together elements from Eddie's and Matthew's home states, using charcoal made of both Kentucky white oak and Texas mesquite to filter the liquid. The bottle bears the signatures of both men on the label, and with sweet citrus and spicy notes, it's far more than... alright, alright, alright.
A sweet blend of caramel, smooth toffee lifted by spicy notes of nutmeg and oak.
Initially creamy vanilla, fading into buttery caramel, orchard fruits, a dash of lemon zest tempered by a drizzle of honey.
A pinch of black pepper appears on the finish, followed by an underlying buttery note and lingering drying oak.
I bought this through Amazon treasure truck and am pleasantly surprised. I like the fact it has a lingering dry taste on the mouth and a little bit of a burnt caramel flavour. I do like Islay peated Scottish whisky which is enlivened by adding a little water. I did this to the Longbranch and it also loosened up the flavours adding to my enjoyment of it.
For a celebrity whiskey i was a little unsure however the taste is great very unique with the mesquite taste it makes for a nice nose and pallet worth the money for a bottle
Wasn’t expecting something so smooth. Bags of caramel initially but still quite subtle and a delicious aftertaste. Very surprised. Very good.
Had I known about the celebrity connection I probably would not have purchased this bottle, given the gimmick status if so many other hollywood-connected liquors, and that would have been a tragedy. This is a superb bourbon for the price. I love the woody flavor and the mesquite bite. Reminds me of my time spent in Texas. I will be buying more.
Reminds me of a wild turkey 101 flavour but a bit more subdued, probably the proof has something to do with it. If you like wild turkey 101 but the burn is to much, this is the one for you
