A lower strength bourbon from Wild Turkey, bottled at 81 proof (40.5% abv) and created by the associate distiller Eddie Russell, the son of master distiller Jimmy Russell. This has a high rye content in the mash bill and is aged in casks with a heavy char - the result of which is huge flavour and complexity without the same heat as the 101 proof.
A spiced, oaky nose with vanilla fudge, rye spices and coffee beans.
Rich and thick, notes of caramel, manuka honey and fudge, hints of rhubarb and custard sweets and oily espresso beans.
Caramel and coffee, hints of Black Forest honey and Hot Cross Buns. Charred and spicy.
A fabulous bourbon with oodles of complexity…
The alcohol flavour is so strong that won't let you taste any notes. You can use it for mixing, but then again, there are better options even for that.
Good but 101 works better for me.
Our local Tesco currently have this, my current favourite bourbon, on Clearance for just over £12 I need say no more other than I’m stocking up.
Very good. Never really put much of an effort to get to know or try Wild Turkey but my wife got me a bottle as a gift this past year. I was impressed with its flavor and balance. The whiskey doesn’t try to be too many things or overpowering in any particular way. Seems like the distiller knows what works and sticks to just being great at 3-4 different flavors without coloring outside the lines. Nose: I picked up vanilla, wood and banana Palate: Sweet caramel, more vanilla and burnt sugar. Creamy. No burn. The wood fades a bit over time. Finish: Very little burn, some black pepper. As the summary says, it’s very smooth and enjoyable. I drank it neat with a few whiskey stones to keep it cold and let it breathe for ten minutes before drinking. Flavor didn’t change much over time, consistently smooth...wood wore off a bit after about twenty minutes. Great whiskey!
Pretty dang good for the price. Yeehaw
