Distiller's Reserve Kentucky straight bourbon from Wild Turkey is a special release, where father and son distilling team Jimmy & Eddie Russel have selected whiskey from their favourite reserves. Matured for 12 years, and bottled at 50.5% ABV (or 101 proof).
Plenty of caramel and spice, with some clove, ginger, and black pepper.
Brown sugar, fresh baked cookies, vanilla fudge, dark chocolate chips, and some candied orange peel.
Sweet spice, and warm, toasted oak.
Nowhere near as rich and flavorful as I was anticipating. Other than that, it is excellent in all other ways.
Gave this a very good sniff over and over and over hoping to get a calculus of abv, age, barrels, rickhouse, grains, mash, distillation, etc. The taste matches the smell exactly in the fact that everything is in line. What is lacking is richness and viscosity, but that is due to dilution.
