This bottling of Wild Turkey has been aged for at least six years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof. The whiskey is only diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof with plenty of pep.
The nose is quite subdued, yet there remains a beautiful toffeyed sweetness. Notes of toasty oak and melted vanilla ice cream, a touch of zesty citrus and butterscotch. The palate is full and rich with notes of cigar box sweetness, pepper, caramel, or ‘carmel’ should I say? Notes of honey on granary toast with a little melted butter. The finish is long and rich with spice and toast notes.

I have tried cheap bourbons and expensive ones. None comes close to the enjoyment I get from Wild Turkey 101. If you don't like it then you are probably a pussy. Maker's Mark is awful...Keep your Knob's Creek; I'll stick with the Kickin Chicken.
I started with a lesser whiskey and was about to just stay with beer, when I was given a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 for my BD, I have never looked back... hot or cold, summer or winter, best drink in my home, house rule "don't like 101 bring your bottle". It brings me up when I am down. better than a best friends it keeps secrets!
If it's not 101, the it not wild. The whiskey ever. I will not drink another alcohol.
So let me start with this: I have been exploring the world of bourbon for the past year or so, after having a sordid affair with all manner of IPAs. I started with WL Weller reserve, moved to Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace. Heard about and tasted Woodford Reserve, moved on to Buillet and their Rye offering. Had Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Maker's mark and Knob Creek, and even had the pleasure of a small taste of Pappy 23 year. And after all this, I keep coming back to 101. The first time I purchased this bourbon, I did so because it was cheap..Seriously, 29.99 for 1.75L. I struggled with it at first, drinking it neat at room temp. I tried it in an old-fashioned, found it lacking compared to buillet rye and wl weller. I tried it on the rocks...and struck gold. This is truly where this bourbon shines. 2 fingers and an ice cube. The water really opens up this spirit and allows all of those flavors that are mentioned in other reviews come to life. Some purists may balk at the idea, but give it a shot and I promise you won't be disappointed.
