This bottling of Wild Turkey has been aged for at least six years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof. The whiskey is only diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof with plenty of pep.
The nose is quite subdued, yet there remains a beautiful toffeyed sweetness. Notes of toasty oak and melted vanilla ice cream, a touch of zesty citrus and butterscotch. The palate is full and rich with notes of cigar box sweetness, pepper, caramel, or ‘carmel’ should I say? Notes of honey on granary toast with a little melted butter. The finish is long and rich with spice and toast notes.

I’ve had many bourbons, since they are my favorite type of whiskey, from Angel’s Envy to Basil Hayden. Although those are fine bourbons, Wild Turkey 101 blows them out of the water for the price and proof. It is amazingly smooth, balanced, and simple yet flavorful. I never write reviews but this whiskey deserved one. My first sip had me surprised and delighted. I don’t think you can get much better for the price. This is one of the few American whiskeys founded before prohibition, so the bloodline of this bourbon stems from simplicity, character, and originality. I will always have a bottle on my shelf.
On the rocks this is a great drink and on point for the price cheaper than an eagle rare but as good on taste. Smooth vanilla and oak notes that leave a sweet after taste. 101 is now my go too drink and converted a few lifelong jd drinkers along the way.
Best bourbon bar none for any price. Palates differ I know but WT 101 is the gold standard for covering all the bases. Reasonable price and exceptional taste, value, quality. Do yourself a favor, enjoy and enjoy and enjoy. Many options out there but this one is my favorite!
I have all the ‘unicorns’ on hand and 101 STILL it blinds them all among friends. Kudos to them for keeping it readily available.
Fantastic Bourbon. Not the most glamorous or tendy but an awesome all round Bourbony Bourbon. Great straight but for me an ice cube brings out best of its bold flavours. Strong nose, palette and finish, and well balanced. If I was limited to only one Bourbon this would be it. A true American classic and amazing value.
