This bottling of Wild Turkey has been aged for at least six years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof. The whiskey is only diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof with plenty of pep.
The nose is quite subdued, yet there remains a beautiful toffeyed sweetness. Notes of toasty oak and melted vanilla ice cream, a touch of zesty citrus and butterscotch. The palate is full and rich with notes of cigar box sweetness, pepper, caramel, or ‘carmel’ should I say? Notes of honey on granary toast with a little melted butter. The finish is long and rich with spice and toast notes.

smell: who cares? its subjective and made up on the spot. that being said it smells good. sweet and spicy then some alcohol smell on the finish. taste: also who cares? maybe more so people than smell. it tastes great. if i tasted this blind i would say it was worth between 33 and 38 dollars not 22.99 marked down from 25.99 mainly because it is nice and warm and tastes similar to the smell. yes there are things i dont like about it but for the price, for the proof, and comparing it to other things ive had the past few days..they dont really factor. insanely good. you just simply cannot be a snob and judge things outside of their price range which people always do. considering the price, color, smell, taste, finish, whatever. its five stars. dont drink a 3 dollar per liter mash and then give it one stars because youve had better, compare it to other similar priced mashs and actually use your brain and think about what rating it should get for the price.
Best for me so far.
Nothing should taste this good for this amount of money. I'm a Scotch drinker, and I love peat. Ardbeg is my candy. Bruichladdich classic is a fav. MaCallan got me started 20 years ago and still tastes great. If I can get my hands on them, I prefer these, but NOTHING one penny less tastes better than WT 101. It's got so many flavors (high rye, I'm told) that depending on the water u add, u get diff drinks. Play around a little. It's smooth, unless u guzzle it to your throat, nice burn, candy, grap, spice, with a delicious finish. I honestly want some in the morning when I see it on my table, but put it away until all work is done. This is waaaay better than any other bourbon, which normally, I don't like. If you love peat, take my word for it and the many like minded reviews, this is a flavorful, delicious, manly, interesting drink that you can enjoy neat or I'd imagine with ice. My daily drinker when I'm on a budget.
Ok let me first say that I am enjoying this whisky high proof, great taste and long. What I don’t understand is when people/snobs say great entry level bourbon. I mean cmon it’s 50.5 % alcohol, price in Canada is $40 and it has great taste. What’s the high end then? For me it’s perfect medium ground stuff. Listen to an ordinary intelligent person who enjoys his whisky daily and forget about notes, and nose BS. Enjoy!
Love it. Having my first sip of 101 now. Smooth with several mellow subtle tastes flowing down my gullet. Superb.
