This bottling of Wild Turkey has been aged for at least six years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof. The whiskey is only diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof with plenty of pep.
The nose is quite subdued, yet there remains a beautiful toffeyed sweetness. Notes of toasty oak and melted vanilla ice cream, a touch of zesty citrus and butterscotch. The palate is full and rich with notes of cigar box sweetness, pepper, caramel, or ‘carmel’ should I say? Notes of honey on granary toast with a little melted butter. The finish is long and rich with spice and toast notes.

Had my first try of this whiskey which a friend bought back from the States, made the mistake of underestimating this! Very heavy handed, but once I drank it right, its fantastic! The smell has notes of vanilla scents and tasting reveals more vanilla and caramel flavours, very good sippin' whiskey, much better than Jim Beam. Can't wait to try it as part of a Manhattan or Old Fashioned!
I find the heat and the sweetness overwhelming, difficult to enjoy. I find knob creek to be best of the $40 or under whiskey selections.
WT101 is my every day go-to pour. Rich, sweet, smooth, and with a nice kick to it. Others at or near it's price point, and most at even twice the price, just don't compare, it's only real competitor in the under $40/5th catagory is, IMO, Elijah Craig 12 y.o. There are many good whiskeys in that price catagory, but to me WT101 is the clear winner.
Nasty shit. Other whiskeys I sip and contemplate the subtle flavors. This I just whackback and let it do its thing. It hurts my throat and makes my mouth go numb. If you have a drink problem then this is the solution. If you don't have a drink problem try this and you'll see why so many people do. If Jesus ever comes back it will be to drink this stuff.
Nice, for the price you can't beat it.
