This bottling of Wild Turkey has been aged for at least six years before coming out of the barrel at 109 proof. The whiskey is only diluted slightly before bottling at 101 proof with plenty of pep.
The nose is quite subdued, yet there remains a beautiful toffeyed sweetness. Notes of toasty oak and melted vanilla ice cream, a touch of zesty citrus and butterscotch. The palate is full and rich with notes of cigar box sweetness, pepper, caramel, or ‘carmel’ should I say? Notes of honey on granary toast with a little melted butter. The finish is long and rich with spice and toast notes.
For some reason the last three fifths of Wild Turkey 101 have tasted like mold! No smell of mold but you definitely taste it. Been drinking 101 for forty years and never came across that before.
It’s smells and taste like Christmas to me It has these spices on The nose and palate, like orange, clove rye, Christmas spice, cinnamon, caramel, toffee pudding, slight salt, oak.. A good burn being 101 Good price I’ve also tried longbranch and prefer this regardless of price
Very good bourbon...smooth,mellow but spicy and nice aftertaste.Superior bourbon and great price too.Gobble it up!!!
As I read the above review I have to say it was dead on. With the last of my neat shot still lingering upon my tongue every note mentioned was present. I was surprised to read it was a high rye; for I have been drinking a rye and high rye by a local both are much cleaner with lighter body, the high rye with a corn present. There is a lot going on in the 101 and I am not sure it’s what I am look for in a high rye.
I've had plenty of 'top end' bourbons, but this is my favourite. Hits you with so much flavour from the off. An incredible long finish and smooth for a 50. Don't be put off by the 'bad bottle' reviews, I've been drinking this for years and it's never let me down. Much better than most of the £50 price range bottles.
