The White Peak Distillery in Derbyshire has always made whisky appreciating the region's historical and present connection to beer so it's no surprise to see them release a single malt whisky finished in casks previously used to age an award-winning imperial stout. The beer in this case is Necessary Evil, brewed locally up the A6 by the distillery's mates at Thornbridge Brewery.
The annual release has taken things up a notch for 2023, however, as these casks, previously used to age the Imperial stout originally contained Pedro Ximénez sherry. It's a double trouble finish that combines two rich and weighty styles and we're bang into it.
Creamy and nutty with espresso, chocolate-coated raspberries, smoked almonds, and toffee apples.
Heaps of dark and dried fruit joined by more dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted nuts.
Sweet and rich and smoky.

I’m fortunate enough to live about 2 miles up the road from this distillery and am amazed at the quality of their whiskies, considering both the age of the company and the spirit when bottled. They definitely hold their own against better known and far longer established Scottish distilleries. I would definitely recommend you try White Peak Distillery’s whiskey.
First tasted a couple of weeks ago at a bespoke tasting at The Grain and Glass in Birmingham. This whisky won hands down against some big hitters from Scotland, Sweden and India. Packed with flavour and smooth for a young whisky. This distillery is going places! Try it with some Thornbridge Necessary evil Imperial stout and your mind will be blown!!!!!!
