29 year old single grain Scotch whisky, distilled by a now-closed Glasgow-based distillery and bottled as part of the initial releases from Whisky Works. Bottled at cask strength and rich in vanilla, brown sugar and softly-toasted oak notes.
Strawberry cheesecake, tangy fruit salad and a little candy floss initially. Creme brûlée, milky coffee and a dollop of vanilla buttercream follow, then ginger snaps and supple woody tannins.
Through ancient oak furniture and damp malt come thick helpings of melted toffee, faintly sharp green apple and cooking chocolate. Black cherries and marmalade add a tart sweetness.
A final lick of caramel and a touch of minerality.
Wow. Just Wow.
Extremely rough, definitely not worth the money
Was lucky enough to have a tasting evening with Greg Glass and the boys from 23 Whisky & Wine and this was the clear winner. On the nose it's typically grainy but there's tonnes of fruity notes. I got all sorts of raspberry ripple ice cream notes and creme brûlée, coffee, sweetened cream and a little whiff of sweet silage. Divine stuff. In the mouth it's goes off like a bomb. HUGE explosion of rich toffees, orchard fruits, very fine milky chocolates and lychee. It is like Nikka Coffey but better. An absolute belter for the money. Seriously good whisky and worth every penny in my opinion.
