Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey is produced in Tennessee using a combination of corn and rye, and is put through the Lincoln County Process before being aged in new American oak barrels. Currently it's produced by two local distilleries as the brand's own whiskey ages. The name honours Nathan Green, who was known as Uncle Nearest to friends and family, and was the first African-American master distiller on record in the USA. It's from Uncle Nearest that a particular Jack Daniel was taught about distilling was back in the mid-1800s. Nathan 'Nearest' Green is undoubtedly a figure who was vitally important to whiskey history.
Buttery vanilla and brown sugar, mixed with soft sultana and cinnamon sweetness.
Caramelised nuts, oat cookies, more brown sugar, sandalwood, authentic corn hints and a hint of cut grass.
Lingering mint leaf and milk chocolate notes, with a final touch of spicy oak.

“Gotta say I love this pour. Not only does it have an awesome TRUE back story to it but it ticks all the boxes for an American whiskey. I’m a fan of Jack Daniel’s from Old number 7 all the way up to Sinatra select and 150th anniversary (the expensive one.) I love the J.D. single barrels, however, I prefer Uncle Nearest to the 3 bottles of J.D. single barrel select that I’ve tried so far. Saying all that everyone likes different flavours so let me attempt to convey how this fabulous sipping whiskey triggers my senses. Nose; All the usual bourbon/American whiskey notes of vanilla and toffee caramel topped with freshly peeled apples and cinnamon. In fact it reminds me very much of sticky toffee pudding. Tongue: Oh yes!!! A Granola and maple syrup bar in liquid form…but not too sweet. Spicy, sticky toffee pud and custard. Vanilla & dark caramel like a dark chocolate Dime bar (remember those?) melting on the tongue. That warm alcohol spicy burn tingles pleasantly all around the outer edge of my tongue. Then there’s a slow comforting “Kentucky hug” or should I say Tennessee hug? I’m on my 3rd bottle of this. Bonus: Pair this up with food and it’s awesome. Have it with the desert Sticky toffee pudding and it is AMAZING. Also (not very classy this one) dunk Oreos in it OMG! Why 4.5 rather than 5 stars? Because I'm mean and a price point of £45 - £50 would be better but I guess that when production to meet demand increases, the price will reflect that.”
