Tomatin
Scotland
Single Malt

This 12 year old was released in late 2003 to replace the 10 year old. A medium-bodied single malt from the Tomatin distillery.
Medium-bodied and well-balanced. There are notes of toasted cereals and barley. Hints of winter spice and buttery pepper emanating from the toasty oak. Hints of dark sugar and cut flowers with a note of malt extract, rum and apple peel.
Good body and quite sweet. There are notes of fudge and dark sugar, winter spice and a touch of vinosity, notes of toffee apple and Bramley peel with notes of dried herbs.
Good length with notes of boiled sweets and fruity sweetness.

The first thing that hit me was the smell. It was pretty bad. The taste was nice though. Not smooth, but it was okay. Not too impressive for a $56 bottle cdn at the LCBO. I would have gladly got a glennfitch or a glenlivet. If only oban 10 was cheaper here... :)
Upon pouring myself a glass and without reading the label, I sipped and tasted many flavors; all finished off with a sherry aftertaste. It's a fruity, almost sweet flavor. Very good, the price made it better. Will definitely buy this again.
This is exactly what I expected when paying for it. there is a subtle after taste that I can't put my finger on but other then that it's fine for the $ spent. decent decoy to keep your bourbon buddies off of your top shelf.
Not bad for what it is - a simple, no frills single malt. Honeyed nose, with some fruity hints. Slightly sweet, toasty oak palate, with a little harshness. Pleasant, light woody finish. For $30, I can think of better singles and blends, but this fits the bill.
For $24 here in Hawaii, this is a perfectly fine sherry whiskey. Only the Speyburn 10 is comparable in price. The Tomatin is a fine alternative.
