Tomatin
Scotland
Single Malt

This 12 year old was released in late 2003 to replace the 10 year old. A medium-bodied single malt from the Tomatin distillery.
Medium-bodied and well-balanced. There are notes of toasted cereals and barley. Hints of winter spice and buttery pepper emanating from the toasty oak. Hints of dark sugar and cut flowers with a note of malt extract, rum and apple peel.
Good body and quite sweet. There are notes of fudge and dark sugar, winter spice and a touch of vinosity, notes of toffee apple and Bramley peel with notes of dried herbs.
Good length with notes of boiled sweets and fruity sweetness.

A good session dram. Light and smooth with definite fruit notes. More interesting than the 15 I find.
Fantastic labeling. Great box design. Aftertaste reminded me of rubbing alcohol
Flavor was ok, but after taste was bad and really nothing special about it. After one glass I've had enough and can't see me ever getting another.
A truly very good single malt. Not at all in your face like some other whisky's, this one is very subtle and smooth. To the authors of the negative comments I urge you put down your of over smoked swill and open up a bottle of something you actually have to use your pallet for.
If something is too good to be true... Well, you know, it is. I was looking for a new whiskey to try and this one caught my eye. I knew it wouldn't be great for $30, but I expected more. More expensive whiskey is smooth and this definitely is not. One may speak of notes of this and hints of that, but the finish was similar to the fumes of fueling a vehicle. I should have known, but I won't make the same mistake twice. Back to The MacAllan and Balvenie.
