Single Malt
Tobermory
Scotland
A light hued single malt from the Tobermory distillery on Mull. Ledaig represents peated single malt from the distillery.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Quite light and well-balanced. There is a certain freshness, pertained from notes of cut hay and straw, barley sugars and herbs, notes of cereals and melted salty butter on granary toast.
Medium-bodied with a richness. There are notes of gentle wood smoke and barley sugars, a farmy note with hints of hay and a roots with a touch of cereal sweetness and caramel.
Long and slightly herbal.

See the review above - I don't get too much smoke, just the peat. A bargain of a malt - get it now before it appreciates!!
Or rather the label. No pretence, very satisfying, peated single malt. And change from a score. Honestly, gents - what more do you want?
Firstly, a word to all the reviewers above who have been going on about Islay: do your homework, this is NOT an Islay malt. It is, as the descriptor clearly says, from Tobermory, Mull. I don't think it can be compared with Islay malts, any more than Speyside can be compared with Highland. My first introduction to Ledaig was when I bought it as a birthday present for a friend a few years ago. We cracked it open and did it justice. Later that year, I bought a bottle for myself. Last month, I bought another bottle for myself. It's not a complex single malt, very young, with that smoky rubber on the nose which is often associated with young peated malts. I get bitter tomato on the nose as well, while the palate is dominated with slightly acrid peat and faint sweet malt. The finish is lingering smoke and not much else. It's a simple malt, but that's not a criticism. It's functional, practical and well-made, like a pair of Hunter welly-boots. This no-age-statement dram is great for times when I just want to sit back and enjoy a whisky, without the compelling urge to analyse it and write copious tasting notes.
At this price don't hesitate.
Seriously, I'm relatively new to appreciating whisky and finding my way very slowly (due to a lack of funds mainly!). Is this really a 9/10 dram when similar ratings are achieved by Ardbeg for example. Cheers is advance whisky lovers! Bob.
