Ahh, Ledaig! A cracking single malt that proves Islay isn't the only place to get your hands on splendidly peaty whisky - the Tobermory distillers on the Isle of Mull also know their way around peated malt for sure. This is the 18 Year Old Ledaig single malt, which offers up hearty phenols, smoky herbs, cracked black pepper and balancing waves of sherry-soaked fruit. Excellent stuff.
*UK (excluding Channel Islands) and retail only. Offer from 13 04 2026, while stock lasts.
Honey, baked earth with a hint of mineraly smoke, very slightly chocolatey. Orange oil and tropical fruit juice in the background.
Grassy peat with sea breeze in tow, almond butter, lemon zest, biscuit dough, honeydew melon.
Toasted barley and salty liquorice.
There's really nothing to suggest that this whisky is 18 years old if you were to blind taste. Nothing complex to report whatsoever. Just smoke on top of surprisingly hot sherried spirit. The Ledaig 10 of yesteryear was much more subtle than this but that's long gone too. The Seaweed & Aeons & Digging 18 is much more like it but no longer available.
An extremely nice Malt with no apparent problems.
Ardbeg man and Islay in general....but..gld I gave it a chance ! amazing balance with the smoke and sweetness..doesnt really last long enough on the finish for me but still very enjoyable....
Opened this with a friend and we could barely hold a conversation as each time one of us took a sip we had to stop to say how good it was. It really is one of the best whiskies out there at this price point, absolutely incredible. I hope they can keep it up.
Loved this one. Talisker 18 was always my go to 'premium' malt, but since the price hike I've migrated over to this. Perhaps it's not as refined; however, the peat is less tamed by time in the barrel and retains an intensity rarely found in 18 year old scotch. Nice that it's a non-chill filtered 46% presentation too.
