Ahh, Ledaig! A cracking single malt that proves Islay isn't the only place to get your hands on splendidly peaty whisky - the Tobermory distillers on the Isle of Mull also know their way around peated malt for sure. This is the 18 Year Old Ledaig single malt, which offers up hearty phenols, smoky herbs, cracked black pepper and balancing waves of Sherry-soaked fruit. Excellent stuff.
Honey, baked earth with a hint of mineraly smoke, very slightly chocolatey. Orange oil and tropical fruit juice in the background.
Grassy peat with sea breeze in tow, almond butter, lemon zest, biscuit dough, honeydew melon.
Toasted barley and salty liquorice.
An extremely nice Malt with no apparent problems.
Ardbeg man and Islay in general....but..gld I gave it a chance ! amazing balance with the smoke and sweetness..doesnt really last long enough on the finish for me but still very enjoyable....
Opened this with a friend and we could barely hold a conversation as each time one of us took a sip we had to stop to say how good it was. It really is one of the best whiskies out there at this price point, absolutely incredible. I hope they can keep it up.
Loved this one. Talisker 18 was always my go to 'premium' malt, but since the price hike I've migrated over to this. Perhaps it's not as refined; however, the peat is less tamed by time in the barrel and retains an intensity rarely found in 18 year old scotch. Nice that it's a non-chill filtered 46% presentation too.
Complex peat with silky finish
