The creation of master blender Alex Thomas, The Sexton Single Malt Irish whiskey is made from 100% Irish malted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills. After, the liquid is aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks imparting a rich and fruity character. It comes in a rather eye-catching hexagonal bottle, too.
Rich aromas of nuts, marzipan and dark chocolate with a pinch of spice.
Dried fruit followed by honeycomb sweetness, apricots, lemon zest, prunes and oak spice.
Woody on the finish, with honeyed sweetness coming through.
Add a drop of water and it's a smoother Black Bush. For $30 instead of $40. The pictures on the site have it poured over ice so it needs that drop of water. But it also is very mellow and perfect for mixed drinks as well. Bushmills blends get weak fast when mixed in something, and this doesn't. The better Bushmills, well, they are $45-60 a bottle and honestly not really much better. Bushmills is obviously trying to copy her work with their newer products, but she took her secrets with her when she left the company. :)
Had not heard of this until I was presented with it as a gift. Very smooth and loved the traces of vanilla/honeycomb in the palate. Can taste the rich fruit base, slight spicy hint and the sherry cask finishing. I was surprised and delighted by this offering and will most definitely add it to my Christmas wish list.
Terrific Whiskey! Exceptional value. I think it’s a good as Scotch that’s twice the price.
I expected allot of averages from this whisky. But was I in for a shock. Very smooth, even with the rounded slight spice I get from Irish whiskies. Has hints of cream and caramel to finish off the taste. I’ve bought whiskies easily twice the price and not been as impressed.
Bought this for a friend who is a whiskey connoisseur. He said it was very smooth and was really pleased with it.
