The creation of master blender Alex Thomas, The Sexton Single Malt Irish whiskey is made from 100% Irish malted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills. After, the liquid is aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks imparting a rich and fruity character. It comes in a rather eye-catching hexagonal bottle, too.
Rich aromas of nuts, marzipan and dark chocolate with a pinch of spice.
Dried fruit followed by honeycomb sweetness, apricots, lemon zest, prunes and oak spice.
Woody on the finish, with honeyed sweetness coming through.

I love a good sherried whiskey and this is a good sherried whiskey. Particularly for the price. I'd just added a sample of this to my next order when I found it in my local pub. I'm changing the sample to a full bottle. It goes down like water with very little burn. The sherry casks have given it a pleaseant fruity sweetness without overpowering the flavour of the whiskey. I don't know if the lemon zest and spice come out more when drunk neat, neither came through when drunk over ice but that's how I like it.
The more I have the more I like! This is a real gem!
I would put it on par or even slightly better then other budget sherried irish whiskey like Bushmills Black Bush. Good budget irish.
A lot of the comments in this section are just cynical and snobbish .. it's bright and carries a bit of apple on the pallette. It's decent enough, but I just wish it had a longer finnish. Anything beneath a "three" is just disingenuous and I question the motive behind the the score... either that or perhaps the individual might be suffering lingering symptoms from covid. But to each their own.. I'm more of a peat head anyways, but horrible? No, only if you're a diva.
A fine selection from Ireland - spicy, fruity, nice balance. And a remarkable value here in Nova Scotia.
