The Sassenach is the first whisky launched by Sam Heughan (who you may know as the actor who plays Jamie Fraser on hit sci-fi TV show Outlander), inspired by picturesque Highland landscapes. Expect waves of butterscotch, fresh citrus and warming spices from this tasty blended Scotch whisky.
Fresh apricot and orange, with a drizzle of caramel and a slow build of cinnamon.
Waves of honey and vanilla fudge, dotted with raisin, almond and another helping of cinnamon spiciness.
Lasting nutmeg, citrus oils and toffee.
Its a weak vanilla smell, soft fruity smell. The taste is mild and round. Bit smokey. It taste good. But not worth the price. The tax and toll to EU cost the same as the bottle itself. It was the connection to the tv show that drew me to it. Me and my brother-in-law thought it would be nice touch while watching the show with our wifes. The bottle cost me roughly 300£. Could have got just as good whiskey in Norway at Vinmonopolet for a 1/10 of the price.
Smooth and easy to drink! excellent
I tried a sample of this whisky, its nose is Sweet with grain, but restrained. Earthy, Floral & Herbaceous. Initial palate is; Thin, spicy, sweet. Caramel & apple with pear, cinnamon. Vegetal & Herbaceous. Heat from the alcohol is a little more pronounced. It actually tastes very much of a Loch Lomond (which it is) with the signature orchard fruits, but more than that it tastes of a higher ABV version of High Commissioner a Loch Lomond blend just with a bit more age. Poor value.
It's a nice, easy to drink whisky - which is why it maybe so popular. A lot of the reviews on the site say things like "I don't normally like whisky, but I like this". It's a bit too safe for me, lacking the sea spray, or cask finishings which I look for these days. If someone gave you a bottle, you certainly wouldn't be disappointed, but at £82 a bottle there are many others I'd rather spend my cash on.
As a Navy wife I only drank Martini's. Hated Whisky. Then I had a wee dram of Sassenach and it went down smooth and left a lovely taste. Mr. Heughan has a winner.
