Amber is part of The Macallan's new no age statement range of Speyside single malts, which concentrates on colour. The theory is that by using 100% sherry casks and natural colour, the darker the whisky, the older and more complex.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Soft aromatic vanilla, lemon and barley with hints of ginger. Milk chocolate buttons and hints of Sun-Maid Raisins.
Surprisingly thick and fruity compared to the nose. Golden sultanas, dates, apple peelings and a dusting of cinnamon. Cereal notes on the mid-palate, joined by mince pies with crumbly shortbread.
Fragrant oak finish, with the mince pie notes lingering.
The second level in the 1824 Series, after the more citrus-led Gold.

I have been drinking this stuff for the last few months and to be honest I like it a lot. I am not a fan of the no age statements but I do know what I like. I find it extremely soft on the nose. (in fact it is almost as if there is no smell) but on the palate if is definitely a MACALLAN. A good everyday dram. I like it!
People complaining about age statements need to educate themselves. Age statements do not indicate quality and one should trust Macallan to know when the whisky is ready. In addition, I highly doubt they care that you are staying away, considering the demand they have all over the world.
Stop complaining about the age issue and try it out. Sweet delicate with apple and toffee notes. This one will go in my collection as a must have.
you are no whiskylover if age is all you go by! macallan is one of the best distillers in the world with a Grand master blender thats just amazing. if you don't want to buy it and do not thrust the quality then good riddance.
Age statements do not make much of a difference to quality as long as it was made correctly and not on the cheap. Many 10 year old bottlings are better than those aged 18 years. I would trust that at this price, it would be a quality bottling using quality barrels to age the spirit. However, what I do have an issue with is the 40%. Come on!! At this price is expect at least 43% or 46%. A bit disappointed at that.
