The Macallan's annual Sherry Oak range is bolstered with the 2023 release. The 18-year-old single malt has all the classic Macallan flavours you want thanks to its maturation in a series of high-quality, hand-picked sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez.
Caramel, sherry-soaked sultanas, orange peel, and winter spice.
Tinned peaches, creamy vanilla, ginger snaps, dried fruit, and dark chocolate.
Cinnamon and oak char.
$48.38 - $988.26
Can’t really limit the stars for the price-BUT £350 for a 43% 18 Year Old warrants the sellers wearing a mask and waving a flintlock pistol ! (OK I know the hair trigger Flintlocks were a John Smith of Glenlivet response to his contemporaries upset by his taking out a Distiller’s Licence) I do appreciate the extra 3% ABV, and think the 12 YO could do with such a boost to justify the 90 Quid
A rich amber nectar with bold, strong flavours. Citrus, spice and dried fruit are dominant with some familiar notes of sherry. It's perhaps not as smooth as the 12 year old and maybe not to everyone's taste, but it's a whisky with character and complexity. It's great to sip and enjoy by a roaring log fire on a cold winters night!
Maybe it’s me but I didn’t really like this whiskey. I found it quite overwhelming with the fruity and vanilla notes. Was not my favourite. Definitely would not buy again with its price point
Fabulous whisky whisky for special occasions. We tried this neat and found sherry sweetness, caramel, orange and spice on the nose. The palate was creamy and smooth with vanilla, dark chocolate, dried fruit and a note of peach. the finish we found was lingering with wood and cinnamon being the main flavours.
I enjoyed this whisky on ice. It is very strong, with a deep flavour. I enjoyed the taste but thought the strength was too much to be able to taste the flavours enough. Might be better with a mixer. The quality of this whisky is noticeable, but it does come at a high price.
