A single malt whisky from the Box range in Sweden. The title of this expression is Dálvve, which comes from the ancient Sami language of northern Swednen, meaning 'Winter'. It's matured in bourbon casks and bottled without chill-filtration or additional colours.
Pine oil, burnt toast, brown sugar and oily walnuts.
Smoky and rather coastal peat. Barley sweets and ripe orchard fruit.
Still subtly salty on the finish.
I got this as High Coast version. I guess it was released right at the transition of Box to High Coast Distillery. The first up nose is alcoholic, with some peat. The citrus nose comes later when it opened up. Tropical fruit arrival and peat comes at the development. Not very long finish but can taste a lemon tang all the way. It reminds me a lot on Aultmore 12 years old, but slightly peated. Overall nice composition but the spirit was a bit hot, maybe due to a still that was running too fast (as Ralfy would say). Points deducted because of the heat.
