The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish

The Glenlivet Nàdurra PWC Bottling Note

Matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before a finishing period in casks that previously held heavily peated (Speyside peat, as we understand it) Scotch whisky. This third no age statement Nàdurra release addresses the fact that if you're setting out to create a whisky that George Smith would recognise, you do have to appreciate that peat was used at the distillery in his day. Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Tangy and 'fizzy', old fashioned lemonade and hints of Orangina or Buck's Fizz even. There's gooseberry and a touch of coconut and foam banana. Raspberry and rhubarb develop. The peat comes through as nutty malted barley.

Palate: Tasting this alongside Ian Logan, he explained how his favourite tasting notes are the ones that get right to the point, so here you go: Peat & Pear Drops!

Finish: Creaminess and earthy peat combine for a chocolatey finish, both pleasantly bitter cocoa and creamy Cadbury's hot chocolate with hints of fruitiness still.

Overall: Fruity Glenlivet combining very well with considered use of peated casks.

Excellent complexity and dynamic

This is one of my favorite. Very dynamic. Whalen tasting with friends try this. Poor a dram neat. Nose and taste. Add just a few drops of water and taste. Then try with ice. All friends I have shared with in this fashion are astonished by the distinctive profile changes in each taste.

God's own nectar

I have a half of a bottle left and I love it! so do my two sons!! need another before this one runs out. I bought a Nadurra cask strength (61%) from the distillery when we visited in November 2018. Love the subtle taste and flavours.

Subtle, complex and intriguing.

I love Islay malts. I love the ‘reek o’ the peat’ and their full-blooded roughness and iodine rasp. This is different - there’s the peat for sure, but it’s allied to a smooth, sophisticated and sweet taste. The mouth-feel is full and civilised, but there’s still that underlying, pagan peat. I’ll be buying more.

Great Whiskey, smooth and a little peaty

I am in love with the 16 Year Old Nadurra and thought I would never meet another whiskey that pleases me evenly. I was wrong, generally I am not a fan of a smokey whiskey but I absolutely love the smooth soft but smokey finish of the peated Nadurra. Simply stunning, complex, full, just awesome.

Refreshingly light peaty fruitiness

Wow what can i say apart from I'm not a whisk/e/y expert but so far in my efforts lately to try to have a go at "what makes a likeable drinkable whisk/e/y" as opposed 'to a drink that smells & tastes like one' I have come across a few that i would buy again & believe me thats not many on my list of repeat buys.. Let me put this into context, i have a shelf of whiskies still waiting to be finished off , problem is if its not good they stay there & only the good ones get shared. I bought this whisky as i do like a peat finish like Caol Ila & i do like a refreshing taste like the Japanese Suntory Hakushu or Hibiki reserve in the mouth after it has gone down sooo according to the tasters notes above i bought it & so far this beauty hit my whisky top 5. Now i gotta buy another bottle :)

A very pleasant surprise!

Delicious whisky with the peat taking a surprisingly supportive role as opposed to an in-your-face position. Fruity, sweet, and smooth. Great finish.

A very different whisky to what I usually drink, but wow!

Yes it is fruity and still absolutely amazing and unique. The is a whisky that some might frown at but it is so good that people do things that are completely different. This is excellent quality and a real pleasure to drink.
