The Character of Islay Whisky Company
Single Malt
From The Character of Islay Whisky Company comes a mysterious Islay single malt that goes by the name Aerolite Lyndsay. The peaty whisky has been sourced from an undisclosed distillery on the island, though we have been told that the liquid was aged for 10 years in a mixture of bourbon barrels and Spanish oak sherry quarter casks, which sounds thoroughly delicious. It's bottled without any additional colouring, or any of that chill-filtration, too.
Oh, and the name? If you havn't Countdown-ed it out already, Aerolite Lyndsay is in fact an anagram of the words ‘ten year old Islay’! See what they did there? Very nifty.
Lots of maritime peat, with notes of iodine intertwined with honey sweetness, paprika, salted caramel and old bookshelves.
Smoke returns alongside mint dark chocolate, espresso and new leather, with honey and soy sauce mixed together.
Boiled mint sweeties, liquorice allsorts, bonfire smoke and toffee penny, with a pinch of salt.
I love Islay whisky but am allergic to e150 caramel so have to avoid the big brands. Got this as a gift for my (sad)lockdown birthday and was delighted... everything I love about easy-drinking, pure, non-chill-filtered or coloured Islay whisky
As an all time fan of Islay character this should be right up my alley, the start is promising bringing the expected peat punch, a good deal of ashy smoke, wee medicinal hints and a handful of dry sultanas in the midst. Not big on coastal notes surprisingly, as sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery my findings may already rule out some of them ... Lovely sweet peat, I'd estimate between 30 and 40 ppm so satisfying for the peat lover in me and not palate breaking for the Islay style newbie I reckon. Good load of ashy smoke mingles with elegant sherry, sultanas once more up front aided by gentle dark chocolate and tobacco drought in the depth. The tiny medicinal hints guide me in the direction of a specific distillery now, the ever relatively shy coastal notes do also. Fine balance, an original and full flavor single malt package that charms me effortlessly. Fresh pepper rules before the peat and ashes start to linger. Never too hot, remaining smooth yet persistent in length. Islay character all over, more to it though with the sherry cask really adding a wealth of extra fragrances and flavors. Smooth, gentle, balanced, varied, I couldn't ask for more = a new go to dram to me, bang for buck for ± £ 45 ...
what a lovely dram, easy drinking, peaty but not in your face will buy again
Not very good poor taste short finish. Expected better from Islay
It's ok. It doesn't blow me away, and the finish is rather short. For similar money I'd rather get a Kilchoman Sanaig, Bunnahabhain 12, Lagavulin 16...
