The Character of Islay Whisky Company
Single Malt
From The Character of Islay Whisky Company comes a mysterious Islay single malt that goes by the name Aerolite Lyndsay. The peaty whisky has been sourced from an undisclosed distillery on the island, though we have been told that the liquid was aged for 10 years in a mixture of bourbon barrels and Spanish oak sherry quarter casks, which sounds thoroughly delicious. It's bottled without any additional colouring, or any of that chill-filtration, too.
Oh, and the name? If you havn't Countdown-ed it out already, Aerolite Lyndsay is in fact an anagram of the words ‘ten year old Islay’! See what they did there? Very nifty.
Lots of maritime peat, with notes of iodine intertwined with honey sweetness, paprika, salted caramel and old bookshelves.
Smoke returns alongside mint dark chocolate, espresso and new leather, with honey and soy sauce mixed together.
Boiled mint sweeties, liquorice allsorts, bonfire smoke and toffee penny, with a pinch of salt.
£6.01 - £54.95
Not an Islay whisky in its true sense. I have done a masterclass at every distillery on Islay and find this rather underwhelming. A marketing ruse methinks. Not worthy of the true Islay spirit. Sorry, stick to the basics.
A friend gave me a tasting set of malts and cards, yours being one of them. I had never heard of this whisky but will never forget it. I love peaty whisky and this was no exception. Many seem to burn a little on the way down but this was something else. Smooth, peaty an warming but no burn. Cold night, warm fire and a measure of this incredible pleasure. A full bottle not a taster measure beckons me I feel.
Surprisingly peaty and instantly fabulous single malt. Entirely worthy of adding to any self-respecting whisky-lover’s bar.
It’s definitely a marmite.. you either love it or hate it, there’s no inbetween. It has an acquired taste, unusual and like non I’ve tasted before. I’m pleased I’ve tried it, but after a few sips, the only flavour I taste is old leather, and I’m not sure I enjoy that taste.
What a fucking discovery! This is one of the nicest Islay whiskies I’ve ever had - peat, smoke and sweet, like nice ‘n’ spicy NikNaks with smoked bacon. Already on my 10th bottle.
