The flagship expression from Dublin's Teeling, the Small Batch Irish whiskey is made with a blend of malt and grain whiskeys, initially aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. Following that, the Teeling folks moved the whiskey over to casks that had previously held Central American rum! In these casks, the whiskey had an extra rest for up to 12 months, before being bottled at 46% ABV without any chill-filtration. Wonderfully full-flavoured, with plenty of fresh fruit, creamy vanilla and lively spice notes to enjoy!
Cut grass and orange blossom. Allspice, hints of vanilla, apple pie and blackberries.
Spiced, rich palate with rose petal jelly and lemon curd. Creamy vanilla, hints of dried herbs and cinnamon.
Floral, herbal finish. Caramel on the tail.
A deliciously creamy, spicy and rich Irish blend.
Quite enjoyable. Rum tones not overpowering.
This was a funny one for me. Since I’ve embarked on my whisky journey I’ve tried many and although I obviously have my preferences, I’ve essentially liked all I’ve tried to varying degrees. However this on opening and trying was the first time I actually didn’t like a whisky. I even contemplated throwing it away (which would have been annoying since I bought it in duty free so it’s a full ltr)… I gave it a few more chances and it definitely improved with each try. I have no idea why but maybe oxidation helped? Now it’s actually a pretty pleasant Irish whiskey. 0.5 stars for the initial experience, 3.5 stars now, balanced to a 3 stars total for me.
Good solid Irish Whiskey
i think this is quite poorly made, too spicy and lacks any character. smells like kerosene too.
Tastes unbalanced and over-spicy. Too sweet and the rum is too much in the foreground.
