A Danish rye whisky here from Stauning! It's produced from malted Danish rye and barley, which is entirely floor-malted at the distillery. After it's distilled on open-fired stills, the spicy spirit is then matured in new American oak barrels. The folks at the distillery call it something along the lines of liquid fresh Danish rye bread, which sounds rather good to us...
Rye bread fresh out of the oven is indeed there, with touches of blackberry, peppery oak and menthol.
More forest berries, oaky vanilla and cocoa lead into oily citrus and more spicy oak.
Caramel wafers, ripe stone fruit and chocolate-coated nuts.
£7.84 - £84.90
Have a bottle of Sazerac Rye always at hand for my regular Sazerac. Decided to try this as an alternative in the current market conditions. The Sazerac Rye is definitely sweeter or instantly mellower. But the Stauning was the winner for me and my son (who blind tasted and had no idea what he was testing). Mellows with time but has a slight edgier taste and next bottle will be the Stauning Rye
I really want to like this whiskey, but I didn't. I love whiskey and I've never not been able to not finish a glass, but I had to throw this away. At first smell I liked it, but after the first sip I really really didn't like it. All I can taste is burnt liquorice and its really over powering.. sorry but its not for me.
I’m tempted to say st(a)unning, but the whisky is way better than my poor attempt at being clever. A really lovely flavourful whisky.
This is indeed a very special juice. It is my favourite Stauning and amongst my favourite ryes. You cannot go wrong with it.
MoM notes are spot on. An awesome whisky.
