Wine Cask

In early 2018, Springbank added another release to their incredibly popular Longrow Red series! This time, the 11 year old, heavily peated Campbeltown single malt was initially matured in bourbon barrels for 9 years before being moved over to casks that previously aged Cabernet Franc wine. Past Longrow Red bottlings have enjoyed maturations in Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Port, Pinot Noir and even Australian Shiraz casks!

Raspberry and blueberry, joined by a hearty blast of earthy peat smoke.
Toasted vanilla pod, petrichor, jammy strawberries with a zesty hint of orange peel, continuing muscular peat notes.
A final waft of dense smoke lingers for ages on the finish.

An enjoyable dram, if you like peat (the non Ardbeg / Laphroaig version) and you love Springbank. Wafts of fruit (raspberries, strawberries) together with vanilla comes to the nose after you go past the peat. On the palate, berry sweetness. The finishing is a lingering oiliness around your tongue and mouth. At 56%, it will benefit from a few drops of water, that helped to reduce the peatiness and brought out the fruitiness. I'm giving this a 4.5 , and I did consider the price as a factor.
