Another release in the excellent Longrow Red series, and this time the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown has matured its heavily peated single malt in casks that previously held Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon! After resting in the aforementioned wine casks for 13 years, this whisky's flavour profile is absolutely huge, with the smoky elements meeting the sweeter elements and working together brilliantly.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Roasted oak and simmered fruit, followed by boozy red wine richness and some festive spice.
Powerful cherry and blackcurrant, with a touch of jamminess to it. Smoke stands up to the sweetness, giving it a savoury, almost salty edge.
It goes on and on, with dark chocolate, rootsy herbs and a hint of tobacco.
