Blue Spot Irish whiskey disappeared from shelves back in the 1960s, but we are very happy to say that Blue Spot is back! Mitchell & Son has relaunched Blue Spot as a triple distilled 7 year old single pot still Irish whiskey, drawn from a combination of bourbon, sherry, and Madeira casks, bottled up at cask strength. An immensely flavoursome expression, with huge pot still character to it. Fantastic stuff.

Big hit of spices on the nose, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon, followed by a medley of puddings: banana custard, apple pie, and frangipane tart.
It’s a spicy one, with plenty of black and sichuan peppers. It’s full-bodied and super creamy with vanilla green apple, peaches, lemon peel and toasted hazelnuts.
There’s a milk chocolate creaminess that goes on and on with fresh fruit and nuts lingering, and just a lick of rum at the end.

Really good stuff,my favourite of the spots.It does need a splash of water to release the full range of its complex and impressive spectrum of flavour.This also has the happy consequence of extending its life and also justifying the higher price. All in all-good value,given the obvious quality.
Any flavourings are ruined by the alcoholic punch. Unbalanced. Stick to Yellow
Bang! on arrival, it is cask strength after all although smoother than its abv would suggest. Pepper n spice & a smidg fusile on the arival yes then tinned fruit salad in the development, ya know the 1 with the 1/2 a cherry in it, covered in sweetened condensed milk. I do also get a kinda Milka chocolate mouth feel on the finish. I'm adding 2tsps water to open it up but it ain't impossible to drink neat well at least after the first sip numbs u down a bit. Overall its light n fresh but if it wer 10yr it'd be perfect imo ya kno to tame that young fusile nip a bit, maybe then I'd give it that extra star.
An excellent whiskey, prefer this to the yellow spot and it even though cask strength it is great straight up. Smooth and warm not harsh, fantastic bottle...get one if you can find one!
Absolutely wonderful. In terms of cask strength single pot still this gives the Redbreast 12 CS a serious run for its money. The madeira finish adds a lot of uniqueness, and the robustness of the middleton pot still means the core character of the whiskey is never going to be overwhelmed by a finish, just complimented by it. I would not worry about the age statement either - any youthfulness here manifests in a touch of tropical fruits as opposed to any thing harsh or grassy. Like with most really good Irish whiskey I do wish they were a smidge more competitive with their pricing as their are of course some knock out single malts at this price point, but at the same time you're not going to walk away from this one disappointed!
